OOTY

Udhagamandalam (Ooty), the "Queen of hill stations" is the capital of Nilgiri district. It is one of the Best tourist resorts and is called as "Blue Mountains". It is a land of dreams and a picturesque hill station. It is situated at a distance of 105 km away from Coimbatore. The height of the hills in the Nilgiri range varies between 2280 and 2290 meters, the highest peak being Doddabetta at a height of 2623 meters.

This famous hill station is at the junction of Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka, three southern states of India. British founded this hill resort which seemed them as their summer headquarters. Before that time, the area was inhabited by Todas. These tribal people still inhabit the area, but only around 3000 remain.

What was once a getaway from the steamy summers of the plains for the British elite of the Madras Presidency is now a hill station that caters to weekend holidaymakers from all over the South of India and honeymooners from across the country.

Getting there:
Air
: The nearest airport is in Coimbatore, 100 km away. You can catch a direct flight to Coimbatore from Chennai, Kozhikode, Bangalore and Mumbai.

By Train: One can take a train up to Coimbatore and then the enchanting Nilgiri Mountain Railway, better known as the Toy train. It is one of the few remaining diesel engine trains and although it spits up huge dark clouds of pollution, it is a major tourist attraction and a reminder of the Indian railways' glorious beginning. The nearest broad-gauge railway head from Udhagamandalam is in the minor Mettupalayam, which is 46 km away. Mettupalayam is connected to Udhagamandalam by a four-hour journey on the Mountain Railway.

By Road: Ooty is well connected by good roads. It is 535 km from Chennai (via Salem), 89 km from Coimbatore, 18 km from Coonoor (via Gudalur), 155 km from Mysore, 187 km from Calicut, 290 km from Bangalore, 281 km from Kochi (via Coimbatore and Palakkad), 236 km from Kodaikanal (via Coimbatore and Palani). There is a regular bus service from Bangalore, Mysore, Coimbatore, Calicut, Kanyakumari, Tanjavur, Tirupati and Cochin. Buses ply regularly to Mudhumalai Wildlife Sanctuary, Kotagiri, Coonoor and Doddabeta.

 

  OOTY 3 Nights / 4 Days

Day 01    Mettupalayam - Ooty
Arrive Mettupalayam.  On arrival transfer to Ooty. The beautiful hillstation established by the British in the early part of the 19th Century.  A fine retreat from the heat of the plains. 
The Beautiful Ooty Lake, Set Among Groves Of Eucalyptus Trees is a popular spot with its facilities for boating. Day free till lunch. Then proceed for half day tour around Ooty places covering Botanical Gardens, Ooty Lake, Dam and back to hotel. Overnight stay at Ooty.

Day 02   Ooty - Coonoor
After breakfast, proceed for a half day sightseeing of Coonoor.  Located at a lower altitude, with a warmer climate, Coonoor is a popular hill resort in its own way.  You can take a Optional toy train to Coonoor to enjoy the scenic beauties. The well laid-out Sim’s park here is a beautiful botanical garden, with many rare flowers, shrubs and trees.  Lambs rock and  Dolphin’s Nose are some of the viewpoints and picnic spots around Coonoor.  Overnight stay at Ooty.

Day 03   Ooty
After breakfast proceed for sightseeing of Film Diwane.  Visit Pykara Lake, Water Falls, Pye Mund, Film Shooting Locations (landscapes), Outer view of the Gymkhana Club & the Golf Course and the Rose Garden.

Day 04   Ooty - Mettupalayam Chennai
Day free.   Later check-out of the hotel and proceed to station / Airport to connect to your destination.
